Dock questions, answered

Short, direct answers about what Dock is, what it costs, what is built and what is not.

Common questions

What is Dock?

A self-hosted team workspace by BobWork: chat, video meetings, docs and wiki, tables, calendar, tasks, drive, contacts, bots and an MCP server, in a Mac app and the browser.

What does Dock cost?

The software is free to self-host with no per-seat fee. You pay for your own server (about $20 a month for a small one, an estimate). Features that use metered third-party services are planned for a paid tier.

Is Dock open source?

We have not published Dock as open source. The draft terms of service describe the licence.

Where is my data stored?

On the server you run, in one SQLite file plus a files folder. BobWork does not operate your server unless you choose Managed hosting.

Does Dock have a mobile app?

An installable web app with push notifications works on iPhone and Android. Native apps are not built yet.

Can I import from Slack?

Not today. Lark history (text) can be imported. For other tools, export what you need to keep and start fresh.

How many people can join a video meeting?

Small calls run peer to peer. For larger rooms, connect a LiveKit server; the limit is then set by that server and your plan.

Is Dock secure?

It hashes passwords, supports two-step login, locks out repeated failures and keeps an audit log. It has not had a third-party audit and holds no certifications.

Does it have AI features?

An MCP server lets AI assistants work inside your workspace. Meeting transcripts are in progress and planned for the paid tier.

Does it work on Windows and Linux?

Builds exist but are untested; the Mac app is the tested desktop app. The browser version works anywhere.
