Short how-to guides for running Dock.

How-to guides

Install

Server: install Node, copy the Dock folder, and start it. It creates one SQLite file on first run. Mac app: open the .dmg (Apple Silicon or Intel) and drag Dock to Applications. The Mac app is signed and notarized by Apple. You can also use any browser, or install the web app on your phone.

Invite your team

Sign-up uses invite codes. Create a code in your workspace, send it to a teammate, and they choose a username and password. Passwords are hashed with scrypt. Admins manage members, suspensions and two-step login in the admin console.

First call

Open any channel or DM and start a video meeting. Allow camera and microphone when your browser or Mac asks. Screen share, mute and camera toggles are in the call. Small calls run peer to peer; for larger rooms connect a LiveKit server.

Import from Lark

Export your Lark history and run the importer. Text messages come across. Files and images do not (yet). See the migration guide for steps and checks.

Back up your data

Stop the server or use a safe copy method, then copy the SQLite file to another place. Keep copies off the server. Test a restore now and then.

Move to a new server

Install Dock on the new machine, stop the old server, copy the SQLite file and the files folder across, and start the new one. Point your team at the new address.
